Camping Nova da Prado is a camping site on the west coast of Portugal, located directly on the Atlantic Ocean. As a result the camping site attracts many water sports enthusiasts, especially surfers. The colourful camping site is specially laid out for campers with tents. The camping site is situated near the fishing village of Costa Nova, on a green piece of land between the Aveiro River and the sea.
The camping site is in the style of the colourful, striped buildings one finds in Costa Nova. The entrance gate, which gives access to a driveway leading to the reception building, has a cheerful white and blue striped motif, which is regularly repeated on the camping site.
The pitches have the upper hand on the camping site. With no less than 450 camping pitches you are spoilt for choice to find an ideal one: at the foot of the dunes, near the entrance or close to the toilet block. Please note: some tent pitches are rather small and are close together, especially in peak season. If you value privacy, make sure that you choose a slightly larger pitch or one of the rental accommodation units.
You don't have to leave the camping grounds for an active challenge. Climb over the dunes, get into your wetsuit and hop on a surfboard. The sea immediately behind the camping site is a surfers' paradise. However, it is not only surfers that are welcome here. You can bring your fishing rod, boat or canoe as well.

Great location for seeing Costa Nova, ca 1km walk away and also for visiting Aveiro by bus. The site is a bit tired but functional with grass pitches which are a little cramped. On site shop is expensive and poorly stocked. Overall happy with the site as the location compensated for all the other factors.
Camped for one night. Pitches for caravan were very small and separated by a rope! Nice welcome in reception though, young friendly staff.Toilet and shower facilities were unclean and smelly. Discouraged teenagers from using showers and amenities. Washed dishes in caravan instead of washing sinks on site. Beautiful beach though. Village short walk from campsite lovely in evening. Would not return to site but would visit beach again.
I would suggest that you ignore the previous comments about the facilities. Having read them we nearly drove by but are so glad we didn’t. This site is in an excellent location with a stunning beach and only about 1 mile outside Costa Nova. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We were here in May and chose our own position for our campervan. There is little shade and in the summer the spaces would mean that you are close to your neighbour. We had lots of room. The site has its own access onto the beach which is 200 yards away. What a beach. It stretches for miles in both directions and the sand is lovely and fine. I would imagine that even in the middle of summer it would never be crowded. There are 2 toilet blocks. Only one was open as the site was not busy. They are small but kept very clean and the showers were good. The electric supply was fine although you will need a 2 pin adapter. We had bikes and cycled to Costa Nova however there is a very good wooden walkway right outside the site following the lagoon. Costa Nova is pretty with very good restaurants and a small supermarket which was well stocked. The one on site is very limited. At weekends and in the summer Costa Nova would be very busy. We caught the bus into Aveiro. The nearest bus stop is outside the tourist information office by the roundabout in Costa Nova. It does not stop outside the campsite. About €3 single. The taxi from Costa Nova to Aveiro is €15. The grey waste, water and toilet emptying facilities are now excellent. Ignore previous reviews. We also took the car ferry from Porte da Barra to São Jacinto and drove up the estuary to Porto. A beautiful drive. . Check times as they are infrequent. Booking did not seem possible. We just turned up 15 mins before departure. (Rocket Dog).
This site is ideally placed to take advantage of the wonderful wild beaches and cafes/restaurants in the village. What a pity the site facilities are so dreadful. Run down, smelly and unable to cope even in low season. The grey waste and chemical toilet facility was disgraceful with waste overflowing onto the road.
All this not helped by dog mess on pitches left behind by previous visitors. No attempt to address the situation by owners/management.
Situated by a large beach, (very rough waves when we were there so we didn't swim) and close to the village of Costa nova. There is a very good cycle path in either direction, we took it into Costa nova to see the striped fisherman's cottages. The pitches were divided by posts and some were very tight, most are not shaded, luckily we found one as the temperature was in the high 30's. Staff were helpful and friendly. The only negative was the state of the toilets, they were filthy and I refused to use them, a bit if bleach and elbow grease is needed!
lovely peaceful site adjacent to beautiful beach behind sand dunes and a nice flat walk into Costa Nova a really nice small town where you can catch bus to Aveiro (well worth a visit) and onward train to Porto which we are doing in the morning.
Toilets clean and staff so very friendly.
There is no pool and during our visit in June no entertainment but there is a large meeting room for potential entertainment.
We would recommend and certainly come again.
Just stayed here for one night and will be going back again soon , great for the beach and fishing. You need a bike to go to town but a nice campsite. Showers in the ladies was cold but my husband said they were red hot in the men's, think they need to sort this out. €1.60 for a dog is a lot.they don't take showers. But over all a nice spot.
