Great campsite and very well run. There was a good mixture of pitches mostly shaded and you can choose your place, we stayed a week in March and enjoyed it.
Price was inc electric @6 amp. you can choose to pay a little extra for 10 amp. showers are good with hot water and none of those buttons to press every 20 seconds.
the pool area is really nice with plenty of beds. restaurant is next to the pool with and English pub type of feel to it. the local town and beach is 1500m away with a lovely harbour and cafes.
all in all really good site and price.
The plus points for this site are the location and pool. Excellent cycling all year round in the foothills below Monchique. The supermarket it seems is closing but no problem as there is a large supermarket next door. At present there are two bar/restaurants on site but this could change soon and there are plenty of local and very well priced restaurants nearby.
The toilets are very poor and in need of major refurbishment, although hot water is free for showers and dish-washing, and there are two reasonably price washing machines. The office staff are quite friendly and speak a variety of languages. Finally, if you\'re staying in the main areas and want peace and quiet, forget it, they drive an extremely noisy tractor around all day from 9 to 6, beyond me.
Loved this campsite it had everything going for it from the moment we checked in & collected our plastic wrist bands!
The price was great, we only intended to stay 4 nights but ended up staying 7 it was so good. The pitches were pretty level some had lots of shade, others not so much. There was free WiFi around the site, which was a little sluggish but in view of the number of people using it in July/August it was actually pretty good! The pool was fabulous with lots of loungers around it...we always managed to get a couple no matter what time we went for a swim, and this is peak season. The site also has a small supermarket a couple of bars, and a restaurant. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly and the food and drinks were VERY reasonable. This is one of the best sites we\'ve stayed on in Europe!
I read mixed reviews for this site! It seems to depend on where you pitch, the top of site has lots of permanents because it gets the sun in winter and the nicer toilet block, at the bottom it’s muddy, dark and the toilet block is in serious need of updating, no seats, loo roll or hot water! Be very careful before deciding where to pitch! Alvor is a lovely little town with great bars and beautiful beach.
Camping Alvor, lovely site, toilet seats, loo roll, plenty of hot (& free) water in the clean showers (they seem to have abandoned the free token system) what more could you want? We had a pitch at the bottom end of the quiet area and although bothered by a few mosquitos, we were treated to the local goat herd taking his flock of goats for a walk every evening!
Yes, the site could do with a bit of modernising, but we enjoyed the isolation of the pitches. Alvor is a lovely town with lots of choice of restaurants, excellent beach, river estuary, salt marshes & spectacular cliffs at the eastern end. The town apparently becomes VERY busy during the summer months! We will be back!
Large hillside site, with large proportion of permanent users. Space for touring pitches at far end of site. Very helpful English-speaking receptionist. Some electrical distribution boxes have higher amperage supply, so worth checking before deciding on your pitch. Short walk into Alvor town and good supermarket just around the corner from the campsite.
Beware the processionary caterpillars, they are deadly and I am suffering with an all over body rash so I am not impressed. There are a lot of the trees that attracted them and the site seems very blasé about them.
Stayed here our usual 3 nights. Found a nice pitch right down the bottom in the quiet section and it was. Small building with one toilet and one shower each, showers very good and hot, loo paper. Easy to get to Alvor and we cycled to Portimao as well. There is a pool but we didn't use it. We were able to get WiFi where we were pitched despite being told it's only round the pool. We enjoyed our stay, the only downside is the trek up to reception to get the electrics plugged in and then out when we left as they are locked.
Lovely location, near to busy seaside town with all the holiday facilities. Nice pool which is a bit extra if you want it, ideal to save money if you don't. Pitches fair size at the front but they shrink the deeper into the site you go.Lovely open space opposite for dog walking, town great for the evening. Free wifi poor , but it was free...2 pin plugs but good electric amps. No toilet seats, paper available but not in the cubicles........
We stayed here two nights. The campsite was ok. Nice pitches with shade, very clean bathrooms and nice staff. We had a car and drove to other beaches in the neighbourhood as Alvor beach is extremely crowded beach, the town has enough options for dinner.
