Camping Los Escullos lies approx. 1 km from the sea in the Cabo de Gata nature area. In winter you can camp nicely in the sun and in summer shade will be created. The camping site is spacious and has many facilities, such as a swimming pool, fitness area and a restaurant. The camping site is beautifully located between mountain formations and volcanic rock, in a very dry and desert-like region with a large diversity of flora and fauna and unique salt lakes.
The camping is located between the towns of Rodalquilar and San Jose at half an hour's drive from Almería. In the area you can still find artefacts of ancient civilisations and in the -at times more than 1000-year old- villages, some of the traditional trades are still being practised.
Sun in winter, shade in summer
Because the temperature in this area of Spain is pleasant throughout the year, you will find many hibernators on Camping Los Escullos. The camping sites are laid out in such a way that they are in the sun in winter while in summer shade is provided in the form of shade cloth. The pitches are separated by hedges and trees and all have electricity.
Loungers under the palm trees
Camping Los Escullos has a swimming pool with a separate children's pool and jacuzzi. The swimming pool is surrounded by loungers and in peak season there are Balinese daybeds, which you can reserve. You can make use of the large outdoor swimming pool throughout the year. The bubble bath is open from July to October.

Great site stayed here a few times lovely walks fully serviced pitches great swimming pool nice restaurant.
Large site, very well laid out, pitches well defined and marked. Most with some shade trees or netting, because it is blistering hot. Large pitches at the uphill end of the site big enough for 9m motorhome, with plenty of width for an awning. Superb facilities, particularly the pool, children\'s play area, sport area (basketball/ tennis/ 5-a-side football courts and outdoor gym machines. Large pool with children\'s pool and full time lifeguard. Kiddies play club upon request. Washing and toilet facilities very good indeed. Restaurant so-so. Despite, I think it is very good value for money for a family with children.
one of the dryest places in Europe is a good place to be in February!...good food (and cheap), happy hour 241 every night and helpful staff, some pitches quite small, sunless and an odd shape but overall an excellent site
Good site for visiting the area, lovely friendly atmosphere. The shower block was having some work done on it while we where there, really it needs to be replaced the showers are less than adequate and not a pleasant experience. Good walking and cycling in the area. Nice cafe and small supermarket on site. Swimming pool was not in use as it was having work done to it, due to reopen end March. The next small village up has a fantastic restaurant right on the sea selling great food.
stayed here for 5 nights in January 2017.
GOOD:- great location
great flat pitch and reasonable size for our caravan
early bird cheap beer and wine with a free tapas at the cafe
BAD:- shower area is very tired and needs an overhaul
shower area not as clean as it could be and very cold in January
only two washing machines
wifi connection not very good
The area suffers from the usual mass of poly tunnel blight and poor looking agricultural buildings.
The site is easy to find and has great access.
The best pitches are of course taken by long stayers who will take an adjacent pitch for their car and another for the washing line, seems to be standard practice to discourage newcomers.
Facilities were cleaned regularly. Quite a few empty shelves in the shop but expected for winter. Good restaurant. Fresh bread each morning.
Helpful reception staff.
Quite pleasant surroundings once you are actually on the site.
Caution with overhead metal mesh shading, a neighbour arriving in big motor home fused his TV when raising his auto sat dish which caught the overhead mesh.
Very reasonable nightly rates this time of year and decent wifi.
Beautiful location. Great for our two large dogs to gallop around the hills. Campsite friendly and fairly full for January. Restaurant welcoming and food ok. Local village food much better. Stayed longer than planned. Although warm and sunny we would return in spring or autumn to sample pool etc. Capo de gata our favourite place.
Lovely campsite in this quiet unspoilt corner of Andalusia. Can't speak highly enough of the staff, particularly Maria, Patricia and Sarah who were very kind and thoughtful in helping patch me up after a fall on the coast path before dispatching me off to A&E.
Never would come here again.Rowdy teens payed music all night so we had no sleep. Staff did nothing to stop them!
Friends we met on the way in Spain recommend this campsite to us. Glad they did, it is a wonderful site. Friendly helpful accomodating staff. Restaurant on site is lovely. Small shop is handy but maybe best to stock up with main goods before you arrive. We stayed longer than planned. Lovely coastal walks along volcanos. We did walk from Los Escullos to San Jose beautiful scenery and treated ourselves to a lovely late lunch in San Jose. Very peaceful mind you it is January. Other visitors from all over Europe very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return later this year.
