On the Belgian coast, on the outskirts of the renowned coastal resort of Blankenberge, you will find the well-maintained family camping site Bonanza 1. The Belgian coast is well-known for its microclimate with significant less rain than further inland, and when it gets very hot in summer, it is always a few degrees cooler on the coast. Besides Germans, French and a few Dutch tourists, most of the holidaymakers are Belgian.
Family camping site
Bonanza 1 looks well-maintained; the paths are paved, the grass is trimmed and the pitches are fairly large. Even so, the camping site does not offer many facilities. However, there is a bar-bistro for a snack and a drink with a sun terrace overlooking one of the playgrounds for the little ones. There is no camping site shop, but the nearest supermarket is within walking distance (500 m).
The sanitary facilities in the two ablution blocks are excellent. They are kept spotless, but they are cleaned between 21:00 - 12:00, so that certain sections are closed off during those hours. It is therefore handy to shower before then in the evening.
Where are we?
Blankenberge is a lively, touristy coastal resort. Both the centre and the beach can be reached on foot from the camping site (approx. 20-minute walk). Besides the beach and the pier, Blankenberge offers numerous attractions, a casino and endless numbers of bistros and beach bars.
A special attraction is the coastal tram, which follows the Belgian coastline from De Panne to Knokke-Heist. The hinterland of Blankenberge consists of polders where you can go for walks or cycling trips. And to top it all, the magnificent historical town of Bruges is only 13 km away.

We felt that given the time of year it was still a little bit expensive with no shop on site and no restaurant on site open.
The staff were very helpful on arrival, the pitches were flat and the grass short. The site was clean and quiet but there was a charge for showers, hot water for washing clothes and pots and Wifi. There was no paper or soap in the toilets but they were very clean.
Our second visit to this site, excellent staff and very good facilities for the cost.We stayed for 6 nights and used the train station in Blankenberge (20 mins walk away) to visit Bruges,Brussels,Ghent and Antwerp.Very efficient service,we paid 76 euros for a 10 journey ticket which saved over 140 euros had we had bought the tickets individually.
A great site for visiting Blankenberge - 15 min walk through a lovely private housing area - houses to die for!
Pitches for touring Motorhomes very good indeed with own electricity supply (10amps) and drinking water.
The toilet/washing facilities are as good as you could hope to find anywhere-immaculate. (Take your own toilet paper).
Showers and hot water charged for but not excessive or a problem.
Grey water emptying point excellent.
Very friendly (excellent English) staff who were very eager to help if needed.
If you want to visit Blankenberge, then this is a first class choice.
Beach at the resort is excellent but Blankenberge sea-front skyline has been ruined by end-on high rise apartments/hotels - what a shame!
Very clean staff friendly and helpful. showers free, very helpful about area where to go very close to burgges and Ostend easy tram and train travel would recommend to everyone 9/10 very good
Couple in a motorhome. First time on site. Well maintained site, on the edge of town and overlooking countryside. There are lots of statics but large camping area is next to the entrance around a large modern, clean sanitary block. Friendly welcome by lady on reception who was very helpful. We were able to choose our own pitch. All the motorhome pitches were full, these are small and we were glad we had a large flat grass pitch. Good wifi signal which you pay for. There is a large Delhaize supermarket 10 mins walk away, a further 5 minutes walk and you are at a tram stop, a further 5 minutes and you are on the promenade. Lots of bars/restaurants on the promenade near the Casino. Would return.
Good welcome from reception on arrival and offered a choice of the few pitches available. Pleased with the fully serviced pitch we chose which helped when the shower block was out of action for 2/3 days. Didn't use the restaurant so cannot comment but the site was a short walk from the beach and the lively town centre and very handy for Bruges, 15 minutes on the train. Would certainly return.
This was our second visit to the site. We really enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to a return visit.
We stayed here during the Easter break so it was extremely busy. They really pack you in here so not a lot of room. The toilets need some serious upgrade as they were like old school toilets and showers. No hand wash provided and the sinks to wash your hands were in another room; so people just used the sinks which were for washing up, pretty disgusting. Blankenberge is a fab town though.
