Camping Klein Strand is situated near Jabbeke, in the Belgian province of West-Flanders. The campground consists of two parts. There is a small area around the lake with the beach, from which Klein Strand derives its name. They have mostly permanent pitches. There is also a second section, which is located on the other side of the Varsenareweg. This section is also used for short-term camping. These pitches are also close to the beach.
In high season both sites have their own reception. During the remainder of the year only the main reception near the lake is open. You will also find a Chinese restaurant and a shop there. Near the other reception is a toddler pool (Pirate pool) with several slides and climbing equipment customised for toddlers.
Spacious pitches and different types of accommodation
The camping site is well maintained and has spacious and somewhat less spacious pitches. For instance, on Klein Strand there are special pitches for tents, although there is no space for your car. You can park your car in the large parking area near the entrance. On the camping site you can rent holiday chalets for max. 6 persons. You can also rent Chalets Corsaire for 2 persons as well as luxury tents (glamping) for up to 6 persons.
Endless water fun
Fun for all in the large lake: swimming, the water slides or swimming in the secured section. You can even take waterski lessons on the lake and in summer there are waterski shows. In the small lake you can fish for bream, carp and eel.

Large serviced pitches. !0A electricity (some 16A) - not metered. Free Wi-Fi works well on pitches. Some motorway noise.
Convenient to visit Bruges - Park car at Station Car Park. Present parking ticket to Station De Lijn shop (bus ticket office in bus station) for driver and up to 3 passengers to travel free to and from centre of Bruges.
We stayed here on our way to Italy. We actually stayed here at the end of March. We stopped for one night. It's near the motorway so it's great for a stopover. Pitches are good size and very level. Pitches have bushes separating them. Good pitch facilities water and electric. Showers were indoors so good for early in the season when it's cold. Very clean and pleasant. Reception staff were very friendly. There are supermarkets nearby within 5 min drive.
Stayed here in March as a night stopover. Was greeted by a nice little reception with friendly staff. Site in two halves and the touring pitches were on the other site. We could pitch up on any spot. We pitched up and was impressed by how flat the pitch was, great for one night, no one wants to be taking ages to level up for a night. The site was very clean and the toilet shower block was great, heating enclosed block which was really what you needed in Belguim in March! Easy to get on/off site with caravan. Near the motorway so that was great for us and some small supermarkets nearby if needing some essentials for the night.
We stayed here because it is well-placed for visiting Bruges, but overall an odd campsite. Clearly popular with regular visitors, Klein Strand has a small lake bordered by a busy motorway. Hard to see why people would come here for their holidays rather than go to the coast, the water slides looked fun though. We visited in the off season when the touring site was quiet, except for a group of travellers/traders, a couple of whom were a bit threatening when we bumped into them. Modern, well-heated washblock, with a convoluted wristband system for the showers which was a pain. Bus to Bruges was slow and busy. Helpful staff who spoke good English. Good value with ACSI card but would not rush back.
Have used this site before prior to UK return. It has a bit of everything for everyone, but some of the staff and the organisation in general put a damper on things. Other reviewers have covered most of the problems, and for me this year was worse than last due to a motorbike rally that overcrowded the pitches to an extent that toilet facilities were barely coping. Proberbly my last visit.
Having camped for over 40 years I can't remember a site which was better maintained than this one. The pitches were large and immaculately maintained. Power & water at the corner of each pitch which are demarcated with low level well maintained hedges. The only criticism we had was having to share a dongle for the use of hot water in showers. A bit of a nuisance when you have to take turns to have a shower. Easy access to the site from main highway and would certainly return. Please note that the reception during the low season is not at the campsite, we were fortunate to be shown the way - 300 m walk. This could have been better signposted. Really short drive to the Dunkirk port giving us a restful return to the UK. Recommended.
Lots of noise from traffic, music from travelling casino and music from bar.
After it rains the drinking water was filled with dirt. There were no information.
The staff is extremly slow with almost anything.
Nice pitch with trees to cast shadow.
We arrived on a day we knew was a bank holiday, but we turned up to find the site entrance engulfed in the biggest market/car boot we have seen for a long time. Nothing had been put in place to manage the arrival and departure of site guests and it was totally chaotic.
Other reviews cover most things. Pitches were hedged and pretty but a good proportion are very difficult to access with a larger caravan if you have no mover. Toilets could have been cleaner. The motorway noise we found to be intrusive.
We felt the site did not offer good value and then having to pay extra for showers.
Very handy for Bruges by bus or car.
We would only suggest this site for an overnight stop or a brief visit to Bruges, but judging by how busy it was not everyone would agree with us!
The touring pitches are away from the main reception. In the center of static pitches. Toilet facilities clean and usable. Very good site for visiting Brugge and surrounds. There is noise from the nearby motorway but not excessive. Would use again but not in high season as would get extremely busy. Useful stopover from ferry if heading North as only an hour away from the ports.
Reception/check-in needed to be at the touring site and not at the main holiday centre. We thought that there was a reasonable bus service to Brugge centre
