This was the site that we selected to stay for nine nights, as the main location for our Croatian holiday. It’s located in Zaostrog, which is between Split and Dubrovnik on the spectacular Adriatic coast. Travelling to it (from the North) gives you the mountain views and scenery followed by the Adriatic. The road was clear, little traffic and took us up, through and around the hilly terrain that the Balkans is well-known for. We were driving from Zadar so it was coastal for much of the journey.
The site is fairly easy to find as it’s a simple right turn off the A1. However, I misread the traffic signs indicating that the approach was via the right-hand lane, not the one ahead of us! Anyway, no-one saw us and it was only a couple of hundred yards to the T junction so we carried on...
Anyway, the site is situated just yards from the beach, along a tree-lined road, which also has a number of beach bars, pizzerias and other “beachy” places to buy holiday things. There’s also a couple of small supermarkets within a minute or two’s walk from the site, or a very short drive to the main road, turn right and there’s a well-sized supermarket.
The pitches are within an olive grove so there’s plenty of shade. However, this does mean the actual pitches can be of odd size or shape. No great problem but a walk over to see what’s available is recommended. There is a central shower/toilet block near the entrance which has a laundry, pot-wash, water supply, grey waste drain, showers and a dog-wash. EHUs are on site (these are shared between two or three pitches so it might be sensible to bring a long cable).
We planned to visit Dubrovnik and Mostar during our stay and relax during most of the time we were there. Mostar is easily reachable on a day out and the main roads are quite good getting there. There is a toll when you cross the border into Bosnia-Herzegovina but it’s not much – bring your passports of course. Well worth a visit. I’d been there a few times in th elate 90’s and promised my partner to take her so she too could say “been there!” whenever it came on the TV!
Dubrovnik is also easy to get to...down the A1 coastal road and more spectacular scenery. Also through places where we lost count of the number of roadside sellers of oranges (and other produce) sat waiting for the passing trade. I would recommend that if you were thinking of doing this, do as we did and book a hotel/B&B/accommodation for a night so you can explore and enjoy Dubrovnik at leisure, rather than rush around and race back. We just locked the caravan and stayed in a lovely apartment in the Old Town, leaving the car in a 24-hour car park (reasonable rate too) and taking a taxi to the nearest gate then walking in. We recommend travelling light for this phase as cobbles are not easy to drag a suitcase; plus, our apartment was up one of the very steep stepped streets that Dubrovnik is famous for, so a backpack is recommended!
The site is clean, welcoming but geared-up for families who want to use the beach and associated facilities. The majority of visitors were in motorhomes or camper vans, caravans were in the minority but our pitch was fine. Everything you need to entertain yourself and the kids is there. It’s not sophisticated (and I am not being rude by saying this) but it’s a great place to sit on the beach and sunbathe, go to look at the twinkling lights on the sea in the evening, stroll to a bar for a meal (or drink) on the beach, watch the fishing boats go out at night and generally unwind. The road (lane really) outside the camp isn’t busy and it’s quite safe for children (high season might mean more traffic though) and you can walk left, to the next pretty little town about 2 miles away in the next bay or right, along the beach and through a small pine tree forest which is quite shady and has great views of the islands in front of you.

Pinnen kost transactie kosten.
** Amenities in bold we know are not included in the overnight price and that there will be additional charges for them. Please note that some non-bold amenities may also incur additional costs.
