Travelling party: Family with children, 12 - 18 years

A pretty poor site, used it on s trip back from lower down in France, pitches are dull and trees need trimming to allow light in, the faculty are very dated and over all feel of site is run down, could be nice, if you can find another site I would recommend taking it, conclusion - poor site, very run down

This is a very basic site with horrible toilets, we stayed a couple of nights to visit the lovely town of Chartres. The staff were ok with us but we can speak a little bit of French which seemed to help. Pitches were unmarked, with uncut grass and few electric points. There were workers camped near our pitch, with very noisy children who ran around screaming and destroying the trees. The only good things about this site are it\'s nearness to the city and the nice walk by the river.

Only stayed st this campsite for one night. Avoided the facilities because of reviews here and comments by friends who had stayed longer. This campsite is well placed only a long walk from the delightful town of Chartres. But the reception was very off hand. Many French sites can be difficult if you have the cheek to visit France with a very limited knowledge of French but the woman on reception took this to a new level and was rude throughout our visit. During opening hours the office was closed needing a bell to be pushed to gain entry, which was allowed ungraciously. The only saving grace was she was as rude to the French as to me. Worked as an overnight stop but glad not longer. Friends reported the man was more pleasant.

Think the inspector had his rose tinted glasses on when he visited here. Very pleasant welcome with some English spoken. Told to park on roads as grass waterlogged which is fair enough, but the place has an air of neglect when really it should have been prepared for the new season. Site is pretty with lots of trees but untidy with fallen branches and twigs. Much is made of ensuring the security of your belongings and unit that says something in itself. Wifi free but very poor outside reception only. Toilet facilities building looks new but let down by what is within. No toilet seats or paper or soap or dryers just mildly grubby toilets and showers that were not working on our visit!! Can\'t recommend this one a not a good example of an ACSI site.

At this moment the only good thing about this site is its location. Very near to the town and river. Unfortunately this is also a bad point, because it floods regularly and has obviously been flooded recently, a fact which the check in staff failed to mention. On driving round we found out for ourselves! We had to park on the road, blocking in another motorhome. Luckily they are moving on same time as us. As I sit here writing this they are still piling in with nowhere to park unless you will risk getting bogged down. We came here in March just as they were opening and enjoyed a 2 day stopover and it was wet then, but not nearly as bad. I understand that they have no control of the weather but, they should explain the conditions before you book in. It is an ideal stopover place, but will have to try and find somewhere else next time.

Having read some of the negativity I was apprehensive about staying but needn\'t have worried. No sign of travellers but it is a very busy site with rapid turnover. Sanitary block was clean but very tired looking so could do with an upgrade! The walk into Chartres is lovely along the riverbank but quite a long way there and back for ageing hips! A once or twice a day bus service if it was provided would be a winner.
Ideal place to stay for one or two nights to see the sights but not for longer stay as it is too busy.

Convenient overnight stop and ideal for visiting Chartres however the toilet facilities are dreadful. Be aware. No paper and one continental style and 2 footprint type.Very poor.

We really enjoyed our stay in Chartres. The site is a little old and jaded - but has all the facilities one needs for a motorhome - except new gas canisters. Contrary to other views I\'ve just read on this site, the toilet blocks were immaculately cleaned and staff saw to these daily.
We didn\'t see any full time or \"east european\" campers at all. By no stretch of the imagination was this even a \"questionable\" stopover and we have made the decision to stay here again when we land at Calais in the future.
Chartres is a beautiful historic city. The antique shops are a marvel - and not particularly expensive compared to London.
To get into the city from the camp site is an easy 20 min flat walk along the river and then a 5 - 10 min uphill walk into the city through medieval streets and buildings.
Well recommended.

Difficult to give a balanced opinion as this was the first day of new season - clearly not expecting any visitors as nothing ready - shower block still locked from winter - site very wet so parking on the access roads only. We did not risk even trying the water so can not comment on temp etc
