Friendly Dutch owners, who were only to pleased to answer all queries. Largest pitches we have found in France, also level. Clean, new, well laid out ablution block. Wifi iffy, but no worse that anywhere else. Would definitely stay here again.
We just love this site and the wonderful young Dutch couple who run it. First discovered when friends had a house nearby, but now we just go for the site, usually on our way home from Spain. Alouettes is handy for visits to Limoges and Oradour sur Glane. There are plenty of walks in the surrounding forests. Early morning and evening bird choruses are amazing in spring. Pitches are very generous and the new impressive sanitaire building was just about to open when we left. Fresh bread and croissants are delivered to your van in the morning and you should try to get to one of the twice-weekly table de hotes meals. Last time we found ourselves the only Brits among a dozen Netherlanders but were made to feel very welcome. There's also an excellent little restaurant called La Mandoline in the nearby village of Cognac-la-Foret. A gem of a site.
Lovely little camp, well-run by a friendly laidback Dutchman. Everything spotless. Village nearby for basics, nearest supermarket with cheap fuel at St Junien. Quiet by day and starry by night. Good for a stopover or a longer stay (pool, bar/cafe). The only downside was the lack of sufficient shade in temps of 35C. Otherwise recommended.
Excellant campsite very friendly couple, will visit again. Made us feel very welcome. We had trouble with our camper and the garage in the village was helpful; repaired our camper for little money. The garage name is lyda. If anyone should need assistance he is the man to see. All in all a very nice stay. Excellant food and pool.
Beautifully maintained site with huge, flat pitches separated by small hedges, some with shade. Very friendly owner who greets all visitors personally and shows them round the site. Twice a week (Mondays and Fridays) he and his wife organise a three course meal in the bar. Local village has two restaurants and a bar. Surrounding area is pretty but not spectacular. Limoges well worth a visit as is Oradour sur Glane. There are a number of Chateaux built by Richard the Lionheart in the area but most are closed until July/August.
This is my second visit to this site as it now has a swimming pool it is a fantastic site to be on , The owners are always ready to help and are proud of there site . The pitches are very big and electric and taps on every pitch. So book and enjoy.
Best welcome we have had on any site. Owners showed us everything and described all the nearby places to visit. Swimming pool was not used as it was a bit chilly. Pitches were good with water available. Toilets and showers were good and very clean. Food available on Mondays and Thursdays while roast chicken and chips (take away) was available on Wednesday. Small bar area with TV also available. Fishing permits available from reception (5 €). Bike trails nearby (slightly hilly). Good site for visiting Oradour sur Glane (French village still as was when all villagers massacred) and Limoges . Good value site.
In six weeks of touring in France, this was my favourite site. It was before the French holidays so very quiet which probably helped. The Dutch owner, is a really laid-back character and met us, shook hands and showed us around to choose a pitch. The pitches are enormous - the biggest I've seen , and immaculately kept. The toilet block was brand new and not yet fully open but was superb in every way. They even had toilet paper!! Once a week you can order a roast chicken, and on another day he does full meals, and your bread order is delivered to your door each morning! The pool is also superb. the nearby village is small and attractive but with no shops to speak of. The only grip I could possibly have is that I had to walk close to the office to get wifi. This is something you encounter all the time and I wish someone could deal with it in this connected age! The site is ideal to visit the awesome Martyr's Village, Ouradure-sur-Glane ..
Gutes gezapfte Bier! Was will man mehr!Und dann die ruhige Lage!Sollte man unbedingt noch mal besuchen, wenns paßt
The young owners were very welcoming and on our first night did an excellent 3 course meal including Lettuce and shrimp soup, all other amenities were very good stopped her to visit Oradour sur Glane.
