Château de Chanteloup is a castle campsite in the Sarthe close to Le Mans. The campsite is situated on the beautiful estate around the castle with lawns, forests and ponds. The camping pitches on grass are spacious and demarcated by trees, flower fields and woodpiles.

Estate campsite

The camping fields are located around the castle and the historical outbuildings. The history of Chanteloup, originally a small stately home, dates back to 1400, but the main buildings are from the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. The swimming pool is nicely blended into the landscape and is surrounded by lawns and greenery.

A sense of calmness prevails at the swimming pool. Not far from the swimming pool you will find playground equipment for children, such as a trampoline, bouncer and swings.

Historical guest quarters

Château de Chanteloup has five guest quarters established in the old buildings. They are furnished with antique or rural family heirlooms, yet equipped with modern comforts like television and dishwasher. Almost all quarters have a private garden with garden furniture, loungers and a barbecue. In addition, there are glamping tents which have also been partly fitted out in authentic style. Children will be delighted with their own small tent next to the large tent with all conveniences.

Plenty to do

The campsite also offers amenities for sports and games. There are soccer and volley ball fields and a fitness area. Activities such as sports tournaments, games and building huts, are organised on a regular basis. In high season there is a mini club for children aged 4 to 10. Activities such as canoeing, paintballing or tree climbing are available in the immediate vicinity. Car racing fans can go to the racing circuit of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Travelling party: Seniors

Liked - Very welcoming staff. Very sociable site with lovely casual seating areas. Large pitch, clean hot showers and toilets. Loved the bread delivery and the little market stalls. Will visit again
Disliked - We felt that the restaurant could have been better. We understand that the establishment cater for mainly families but we felt that if could be made more appealing rather than being told that it wasn’t run by the management and not their responsibility. Surely everything on site is the management’s responsibility and should enhance your stay. Like the general ambiance and little touches line the bread delivery, the market stalls, the massages, the games areas and activities. The bar and grassed pool area with a bar. The endless supply of ice creams and the helpful friendly staff.

Liked - Very friendly staff and lovely setting. Beautiful view from pitch. Lovely terrace and bar. Nice pool. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!
Disliked - Cleanliness of showers/ toilet block although very satisfactory could be improved. Cleanliness around pool and frequency of cleaning foot bath could be improved.

Liked - 5 years since our last stay here. Have visited many times over 25 years. Very happy to see little has changed, lovely welcome and super pitch. Wish we’d stayed more than one night.
Disliked - Sorry we didn’t get to go to the restaurant, but poor reviews and advice from staff put us off.

Liked - The chateau and surroundings are stunningly beautiful. The part of then site we were on was very peaceful. The facilities were pleasant and clean. Lots of places to walk with our dog.

Liked - We stayed for one night on our trip south to break up the journey and one on the way home and we were excited to be going back to beautiful Château Chanteloup. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, they were only too happy to move our pitch to a more shaded spot on our return trip. The facilities were excellent/ spotless and the pool is absolutely beautiful. The children loved the play areas and they spent hours feeding the goats! We just wished we had more time to explore the chateau and area.
Disliked - Our meals were perfectly satisfactory at the restaurant but slightly disappointing compared to the standard of everything else. The menu is quite limited and our food was all slightly over cooked. On our return we didn’t have time to eat out so tried the restaurant again and the salad was much better. The wine however was very good.
