Campsite La Tour des Prises ****

General information
Guide price €44.80

Centrally situated in the Ile de Ré island, you will find the friendly camping site La Tour des Prises. Its setting is magnificent: in an old orchard near grapevines and only 600 m from a fine sandy beach. This family camping site attracts a very diverse public, from families with young children and teenagers to young couples and seniors.

The level camping pitches (85-120 m2) have a grass surface and are separated by hedges. The trees provide ample shade. The touring pitches on this well-tended camping site are kept separate from the mobile homes.

Cooling off

The beautiful and heated swimming pool consists of an outdoor pool (160 m2) and a covered swimming pool (270 m2). There is a separate toddler pool for the little ones. The loungers at the swimming pool await you. Prefer the 'largest swimming pool in the vicinity'? After about 600 m along a paved road, you will reach the fine sandy beach Les Prises, on the Atlantic Coast.

Start the day with water aerobics

In summer, entertainment is offered for children. They also enjoy the trampoline and the playground. You can start the day off with water aerobics. You can practice several sports in the area, such as horseback riding, pony rides, beach volleyball and tennis. And the sea is perfect for kitesurfing, jet skiing, stand-up paddle boarding and (catamaran) sailing.

Eating pancakes near the pool

You can order fresh bread daily. The cosy bar with terrace overlooks the swimming pool. In the friendly restaurant you can order pancakes, take-away meals and ice creams. A few times a week the pizza car stops by.

Travelling party: Couple

This site is set within a walled area surrounded by vineyards. The pitches are a good size but can be difficult to access, due to the many large trees. The ground is very sandy. The toilets facilities are unisex. The covered heated pool is a good size with sunloungers. The cycle paths give direct access to the cycle routes of the island. The nearest supermarket is 4 kilometres. The beach is one kilometre and easily accessible on foot. Staff are friendly informative and helpful English. Is spoken credit cards accepted

Travelling party: Couple

Peaceful campsite with direct access onto the many cycle and foot paths from the gate. Lovely covered pool, heated in June and not busy. Fresh bread, if ordered the day before, is delivered direct to your pitch. Pitches are a reasonable size and divided by hedges but access may be tight for larger outfits. Clean shower/toilet blocks which could possibly be overstretched if the site is full.

Extremely helpful staff. Very centrally situated for touring island. Plenty of quiet roads and cycle tracks adjacent. The island is excellent for those who like safe and easy cycling. The village of La Coularde had character and enough shops to cater for holiday needs. Site was 10 minutes walk from lovely beach, close to bus stops for touring island or visiting La Rochelle at reasonable cost. A bonus was an excellent swimming pool with a retractable roof for cooler days. Pitches were good but a bit tight for large outfits, but ok with use of mover.

This site is very formally laid out, with the pitches in long rows. There are tall hedges surrounding each pitch which makes them reasonably private. The site is quite attractive with plenty of trees. There is a pool, although we didn't use it. The toilets and showers are shared (male / female) but are very clean - they seemed to be cleaned at least twice each day. There is a small village quite near to the site, with a small supermarket, a market and a few shops. Cycle lanes lead from the site and it is possible to easily cycle along the coast to St Martin and beyond. The site staff were courteous and spoke English. We enjoyed our stay here in May.

A nice friendly site in a quiet location but ideally placed near the centre of the island so ideal for cycling to anywhere. And the cycling is superb with traffic-free cycle tracks everywhere. I was very impressed that the site had water points ever twenty metres or so, so it was very easy to fill up my campervan every day using a watering can! The staff were helpful and friendly and bread could be ordered each day. There was a very nice swimming pool, ideal for children.
The showers were nice and hot, which is were some sites are not very good and this was the only site in three weeks all over France where the showers had a small shelf for soap and shampoo.

I'm not sure I's like to pay forty Euro a night in high season (Ile de Re seems expensive!) but at the normal ACSI price of sixteen Euro this site was great value.

We enjoyed our stay here. Hired bikes from the campsite for half a day and rode quite a way around the island, beautiful scenery. Facilities were top notch however we were directed to a sloping, rocky pitch with many tree roots protruding. Wasn't very suitable for a tent!

Fantastic site, staff very helpful and friendly even fixed leak in van for me.
The area is great for walking and biking, sea a short walk from site.
great takeaway van on site, free wifi and the pool is great on a hot day.
15 minute walk to nearest town which has a good selection of shops.
Would return again without hesitation.

Travelling party: Seniors

A great campsite if you like walking or cycling. Flat cycle paths everywhere. Seafood heaven in the villages. You can pick oysters off the beach. No bread available in the quiet season. The village is about a 10 minute cycle ride away, it has a supermarket, nice shops, restaurants and bakery. Heated indoor pool. Nice and quiet in the off season. Reception staff were verry good. Free wifi available near recption/games room. Toilets were very good and clean. Reverse polarity power supplies (take a convertor if needed). Nice size pitches with water and electricity. Would use this site again.

Our first visit and very impressed by the island and the campsite. Easy access to the cycle paths and large pitches, some with surrounding hedges. The beach was an easy walk from the site. Would definately go there again.
