A very warm welcome from the owners who helped us settle in to a lovely large pitch to accommodate camping car and trailer. Had a good meal in the evening in the restaurant. Only stayed 1 night because of the weather (not their fault)
On arrival at this family run campsite we were welcomed by the friendly English owners, who have had the site for the last 5 years.
We were allowed to choose our own pitch, all of which were grassy, sizeable, and clearly marked with trees. Some pitches were shady and others had plenty of sun, and many had a view of the lake. Campsite residents can fish the lake for free.
As well as the reception, which doubled as a shop selling a few essentials, there was a bistro/bar, swimming pool, children\'s play area, tennis court and a selection of animals, including pigs, ponies, goats and rabbits.
At the far end of the site there was a large field of sunflowers, unfortunately past their prime when we visited late in the season.
Some interesting items were left at the site from when La Palena took over the village for a festival a couple of years previously, including a giant wooden chair and stick people.
Various wildlife can be observed around the site, including red, almost black, squirrels and kingfishers, and we also spotted a coypu a swimming across the lake.
There were two sanitary blocks, one recently refurbished and the other currently in the process. The facilities were unisex and kept very clean.
The site has some interesting history attached to it, being a hot bed of French resistance during World War 2, and the field was used for parachute drops by the allies in 1944.
Nearest Supermarket, a Super U in Rouillac, 10km away.
We found this to be a lovely, quiet, friendly and relaxing site, and one which we will certainly visit again in the future.
An excellent site run by a very welcoming and helpful family. Stayed longer than originally planned and we will return. Pitches were spacious and the water in the showers was hot.
We have just spent 11 days on this site and what a little gem it is. The owners make you feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. We will definitely be returning.
We were making a return visit to this family run campsite. Lovely family, very welcoming - great restaurant/bar. Our pitch was by the lake and was peaceful and generously spaced. Great price, will be back.
We arrived in August for one week and stayed four! It was too relaxing to move plus the weather and surroundings were lovely. The owners made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We wish them well as they work so hard. Lovely people.
Back to visit this beautiful site which has just opened the promised new sanitary block. Cosmetics not all finished but the new showers are wonderful, adjust to your own temperature and everything else is new too. Bathroom for disabled and a family room in the heated part. Food good in the restaurant as usual and the grass is freshly cut. Apart from the toilet block, signs of a lot of work gone on over the winter with the development of this beautiful site.
There is certainly plenty of space and the site has a lake etc but the facilities were the worst we experienced during our long trip. Old fashioned is ok but sharing a shower with birds nests etc is not acceptable. Only time ACSI ratings let us down - we left after one night
Lovely friendly welcome from the whole family. Working hard to develop their young business and are on track in providing an excellent rural camping facility. The black pigs and little Shetland pony were a bonus as were the large sized Carp in the lake. A very enjoyable and safe environment for all.
We stayed in late May and the campsite was beautiful. The grass was like a bowling green. The owners told us they had had a mechanical problem with their mower and were pleased to have the grass back in its normal condition. Such wonderful surrounding in nature\'s peace and quiet.
The food was very well priced and a good selection to choose from with a wonderful view over the lake from the terrace. The owners are working hard to continue to develop the campsite especially the toilet block which we look forward to seeing the renovation works next season.
