Camping Domaine du Verdon lies in the mountainous northeastern part of the Provence in South-East France. It is a large camping site with three swimming pools, water slides, several eating establishments and lots of entertainment. An ideal destination for families with children. There are many places of interest in the area for outdoor sports enthusiasts, city tourists and nature explorers.
Camping with greenery and space
The large, park-like developed site is defined by its numerous trees. A small brook runs through the grounds and the Verdon river flows past the camping site. The spacious pitches on the various fields offer ample privacy. Do you want to rent accommodation? You can find it all on the camping site: from attractive wooden chalets to mobile homes.
Crazy about water? Hold it right there! With three swimming pools and a large water slide on the camping site, children are bound to enjoy themselves. Past the camping site flows the (shallow) Verdon with pebble beaches: ideal to splash around and float on an air mattress. There are two swimming lakes in the vicinity: Lake Castillon (10 km) and the reservoir of Sainte-Croix (one and a half hours away).
There is lots of entertainment for young and old, from foam parties and late night campfires to shows. Furthermore, there are bad weather facilities, a trout pond, a playground, a sports field and a mini-golf course. You can also hire bicycles on the camping site.
Just like a village square
Camping Domaine du Verdon looks like a small village with several eating establishments and various side-walk cafes located around a village square. There is something for every taste and budget. The supermarket on the camping site stocks a fairly large assortment.

First, it is VERY expensive.
Second, we have a large camper and we told them so but we received a small place that was very difficult to access. Strange because that were truly tons of spaces available.
Also, there is no wifi and when you get it it's very, very slow. This is totally unacceptable for a campground that claims to be at the high level. Especially since it just requires the right investment. That's very annoying because we couldn't plan the rest of our trip.
We were also surprised by the fact that the swimming pool glides closed at 6PM and the swimming pool at 7PM. Thus barely enough time to enjoy it when you come back from a day hike. But what we really couldn't accept is the manager response: "if we close it later then I don't see my husband'. Well, sorry lady but that's not our concern: we have vacations once a year and we expect the service to be at par with what we pay. Plus, this is the job your chose, so don't complain.
An example of animations for kids: drawings (inside)! heu:(. Is this really what they could find in such a beautiful environment?? this is sooo cheap:((.
There is also a little lake where small boats are available for kids. The problem is that there is no surveillance and it is thus very dangerous for kids. You are supposed to go get safety packs at the reception but of course nobody does it.
There is also very limited lights in the restrooms at night.
Also, no chaire/transat at the swimmingpool! you must lie down on your towel on the wet floor:(
Finally, there is absolutely no hikes/trails starting from the campground itself. This is quite sad as you need to take your car to go to a starting point of trails.
On the good side: the animations for kids in the evening and 2 nice restaurants at affordable prices. It's like a "small village" inside the campground. It's also well located close to Castellane but that's not the only such campground.
Worst and most expensive campsite we have stayed at In our first six days in France. Lovely surroundings but that's really the only positive thing I can say. Toilets tired and worn and not particularly clean. Water luke warm in showers and washing up sinks. Pitches all in the shade by 6pm. No WiFi available after a thunderstorm the night before. Only certain facilities open in mid June despite charging a premium. Swimming pool not impressive, we didn't even bother with it. Overall not impressed - we have stayed on a lot of Castels sites but this one really is one of the worse. Only stayed one night and moved on.
