The Gaalgebierg camping site is located in a quiet forested area on a hill with a view of the former industrial town of Esch-sur-Alzette. The camping site is well maintained and is wonderfully quiet and green. Directly next door there is a zoo and there are numerous sports fields and city gardens in the immediate vicinity. Esch-sur-Alzette is located in the "Terre Rouge" region, an area of former mines and heavy industry. There are lovely walks in the surrounding area.
Quiet and green
The camping site looks wonderfully quiet and green. There are beautiful trees. The grounds are divided into terraces, which creates a nice atmosphere. Some pitches are a little small or are somewhat hidden away, but there are also plenty of spacious sites.
Immaculate sanitation facilities
The large central sanitation block is immaculately clean. The building is well maintained and heated. You will also find a baby care site and facilities for wheelchair users.
Because of its location, the camping site is popular with hikers and peace-seekers. There is a recreation programme for kids in the high season. The bus from the camping site will take you to the town swimming pool for free. At certain times, the camping site team organizes excursions and guided hikes. Manager René Schultz is proud of his region and will be glad to tell you what there is to do in the area.
There is a charming café with terrace on the camping site. There is also a restaurant with a reasonable menu. People from outside the camping site like to come to the bar and restaurant. You have to go to the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette for shops and a supermarket.

The staff running the campsite were very nice but the campsite was very crowded with old caravans that had very old awnings i.e. they looked like they were never used and were very dirty. The toilet and shower facilities were very clean.
Nice camping especially for an overnight stop en route to France. Beware though camp site is at the top of a steep hill. We travelled there on a weekend with a football match. On leaving we were diverted due to supporters coming up the hill, and ended up at the bottom of a steep hill ending in a low bridge which was too low for the camper. Advise to check on leaving the site on a match day
