Rudest receptionist in all of France Spain and Portugal.... give it a miss unless you\'ve no alternative...
This is an excellent campsite and well worth a long stay at. Close to the beach (<300metres) away with a very well stocked shop, well stocked bar and snack restaurant, 2 sets of very clean and well maintained loos and it is run by very helpful staff. Host speaks good English and is very helpful.
Have a good laugh at the English translation on the chemical loo disposal point when you’re there...
Layout of the site is interesting; there’s 2 areas for touring caravans and motorhomes. One essentially a long line facing the South and sheltered from winds by a high hedge. The other is a typically laid out site with adjacent pitches. Electricity is 6 amp but stable (which is good because they lock the cabinets so you’ve no access to trip-switches so take care.
Access is easy, except it’s via a cobbled road with very steep speed bumps - go very slowly - there’s a real risk of grounding.
This is also a large residential site (>100), though it looks like most of the residential pitches are seasonal as most were closed down when we there in early July. If you go in July or August it might be a bit busy!
If you want to visit Porto, this site is ideal. There’s a very modern and clean Metro that takes 30 minutes to the centre of Porto and all the tourist attractions only 10 minutes away with loads of parking (the parking is in a very large car park for an Outlet Fashion Shopping Mall, so you can shop and park!). Parking is free and Metro is stupidly cheap at only €2.60 per trip per person. Ask at reception for an info sheet before you buy tickets though as the ticketing is confusing (tip: you buy a “title” (titulos) for each one way trip, so to buy a return ticket you buy 2 titulos....simple eh?)
Porto is wonderful and well worth at least 2 days touristing, especially the wine lodges and the 1900s historic trams.
Very strongly recommended!
Great camping with warm welcom. Superb sani and large pitches. Close to the beach and good restaurants. Well stocked supermarket and nice bar with glass of welcome port. Public transport to Porto is first by taxi and then by train.
An excellent campsite for visiting Porto. Access to the site from the main roads is easy as is access into the site for caravans and motorhomes. Maria runs the reception and is incredibly friendly and efficient. There are no pitches as such you are just shown to an area. We had plenty of space however it could be tight in the high season. Electric all worked fine as did the very clean toilets and showers. They are free and have a 7 minute timer. On site is a very good little supermarket with fresh bread every day. No need to pre order. Most people staying at the site appeared to be there so as to visit Porto. The metro station is a10 minute taxi ride and costs €6 for the taxi which will take 4 people. Maria will organise this for you. There was always a taxi waiting at the metro in the evening to bring us back to the campsite so no need to book. The metro runs every 30 mins and the express train takes 30 mins into Porto at a cost of €4.60 return. Tickets have to bought at the station from a machine which when we used it 2 days running did not accept credit cards or notes. Only coins but does give change. The beach is a 5 minute walk downhill from the campsite and was very clean with plenty of sand. However due to the rocky nature of this part of the coast it is very difficult to find access to the water to swim. There are a number of very good restaurants very close to the campsite. One is opposite however we ate at Caravela which is a 5 minute walk and was excellent both in terms of food , service and price. There is free wi-fi at the site in the bar area. Grey waste and toilet emptying were both well set out .
We had a lovely relaxed stay in this well maintained camp site which is only a short walk to the beach.
When our dog lost her only ball in the sea, a member of staff came up with one from lost property!
We enjoyed 5 nights here in June. Excellent location not only for the coastal area but by the Metro into Porto. The site itself is very cramped with no demarcation between the pitches and you will be fairly tightly packed in. However it is well worth visiting for the location and the exceptionally friendly, helpful and polite staff - they really are fantastic. We enjoyed several evenings in the bar which were most convivial. The prices are unbelievable.
The facilities are excellent with ample hot water at all times. They are very modern and always spotless.
Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay so pleasurable.
We can heartily recommend this site.
Didn\'t book, turned up after a disastrous booking at Vila Alto.. the staff were brilliant & friendly, the welcome was like being booked into a hotel !!!... we ended up by staying a week, Metro into Porto, reception booked our taxi to the station. Designer Outlet next to Metro, another bonus !... and even better, we had the beach to ourselves !... not for those wanting bars and restaurants, yes there was a couple in the village, but just a fab Portuguese village by the see... we\'ll definitely be going back it we head to Porto ! The staff work very hard and always have a smile for you, nice little bar on site too, no entertainment whilst we were there, but never bothered us...
Nice site but we asked for the back part of site after reading reviews. Walking around town was lovely, very pretty buildings and fishing was good.
This is only good for a 2/3 night stay to visit Porto. The staff are very accommodating and charming but there prime objective is to cram as many motor homes and caravans in as possible. Aircraft start taking off at 6pm but usually finish by 10pm. Beaches very nice with boardwalks for bikes and walking. We did have our electric cable taken out arbitrarily when we were out one day and drainage issues going on in the evening. Don't expect to be happy staying here, it's just a means to an end to see Porto. Which is well worth it.
When we arrived we were put in a cramped space with other vans, and if there had been a fire we would not have got out alive. A definate severe fire risk. Within 10 mins we were surrounded by at least 12 cats - we had two terriers who where determined to kill at alll costs, the noise was unbearable for us, never mind the neighbours.. We were then moved, at our request, to a much, much better area of the site, with a proper camping pitch and a modern toilet block - and only the occasional cat. We stayed 10 days and enjoyed the area generally. A great beach. Visited Porto, & Guimaraes (both a must). The staff are so helpful - we were even given instructions in English on how to use the metro train to go to Porto, plus a tourist map. Our two dogs went on the train for and were also allowed on the river trip in Porto. We will definately return. Thank you.
