Camping Altomira is situated between the Espadán and Calderona nature reserves, some 25 km from the Mediterranean and an hour's drive from the fascinating city of Valencia. It is a quiet spot from where you can venture anywhere. From the camping site there are wonderful walking and cycling routes over paved trails.
The steep, terraced camping site offers reasonably large, beautifully laid out pitches on compacted gravel. On the lowest section you will find many permanent pitches, as well as most of the facilities. Rental accommodation units (bungalows) are located on the middle section. On the top section, campers have a splendid view of Navajas and the surrounding area. The pitches here are demarcated with hedges and are sheltered by an artificial sunroof.
Nice swimming pool
There is a lovely swimming pool with separate toddler pool (depth 50 cm) surrounded by sun loungers. It is a wonderful area to relax in the shade of the pine trees.
Walking along former mining routes
Children can play to their heart's content on a play area and sports field. Furthermore, there is an entertainment programme in high season. There are also excursion programmes and guided walks. Starting from the camping site are some great walking and cycling routes over the so-called 'camis verdes', paved trails on former narrow-gauge railway lines used for mining. There is a bicycle workshop for campers with their own bicycle. Very handy when your push-bike has to be repaired.
There is an excellent restaurant with limited menu (daily menu) where you can also eat delicious paella for a very reasonable price. Daily fresh bread is available. There is a supermarket at a distance of only 4 km. There are a few barbecues on the camping site.

Though only 2 km from the A23 motorway, the terraced campsite sits on a steep hillside, which makes access very difficult. The lower area, by the reception and restaurant, is taken up with static vans. Tourers must climb a steep twisting drive with tight bends, quite dangerous for larger motorhomes and caravans, to the upper levels. Here the pitches are mostly small with awkward access and steep curbs to catch the exhaust pipe! Our 7-metre motorhome would only fit on a couple of the places, and a caravan would need a mover.
The toilet and shower facilities are clean and heated, with good hot water, though the wash-up sinks are outdoors, right next to the chemical WC drain. WiFi is available for a price on the pitches, or free of charge down at the bar/restaurant, where we had an excellent Menu del Dia set meal.
Navajas village is a 1-km downhill walk away, but nothing was open.
There is access to a former railway line, now a Via Verde path for cycling, walking and horse-riding, that passes above the campsite. This would be good at a warmer time of year!
The Receptionist was welcoming and spoke English, the winter rate is good, but the site is only suitable for small campervans driven by fit athletic campers.
Our second stay at this campsite, which is easy to find and very close to A23 road. Good, inexpensive bar with a friendly staff. Close to town, which is pretty and shabby in equal parts. Clean, efficient showers and facilities. Good shade and clean pitches. Steep hill up to ppitches.
We disagree with many reviews. We found the wc/shower block at the top of the site very poor... and the other 2 blocks little better. The staff are super. The only pitch available to us had a huge kerb at one end and was very difficult to access. We had contacted the site in advance, and were advised there was no need to book as there would be plenty of availability, but the site was quite full. We had intended staying 5 night but moved north the next day.
This site is very steep as you enter, we were pitched near the top of the site which has approx. 1 in 7/8 gradient. Reception was helpful, pitch terraced and gravel/sand, with water and electric, toilets/showers were good and clean, café/bar was nice and not over priced. The village in the valley was very quaint real old Spain. The only real problem with this site is how steep it is getting on and of the site. If you use a wheel chair, walking sticks/frame or mobility scooter please do your homework on this site.
Yet another great site, the staff a the location on a via verde is perfect well worth a visit. The views from the pitch could be charged extra for!
My Wife and I had to return home rather quickly in Febuary this year due to family illness at home, our then car would not go up the steep entrance,, The Staff were absolutely wonderful and found us a pitch we could get to, I would like to thank them very much for their help, we have stayed at this site before and always enjoyed the experience Chris & Elaine Kelly
A good site for a couple of night if you have Been travelling down or up to Bilbao etc. The toilets and shower are good .the staff are friendly easy to talk to. Restaurant / bar are okay pitch are big enough for or 7 m motorhome get into and out off the site is not a problem
This is a lovely site with very good facilities (although we did not use most of them!!). However, being terraced it was quite a climb from the reception and entertainment area to the top of the site, where we were sited! (which is why we didn\'t use the bar etc.) ****HOWEVER - BEWARE*** some pitches are accessed by extremely high kerbs and we had real problems getting on and off, damaging the underside of our motorhome slightly. Other pitches, lower down the site, were fine... Would we stay again? Yes, but only on a pitch with flat access.
Best campsite we\'ve stayed in during our 2 months in Spain. Staff in reception were extremely helpful and encouraging of our (limited) Spanish language skills. Toilets and showers very clean, loads of hot water. Plenty of walking & cycling in the area. Local shopkeepers very welcoming and friendly.
The welcome here was very good and because the site is terraced the views are good too. However it is an awkward site to get into and larger units may well have some difficulties. There is a \"lip\" on the edge of many of the pitches and so manoevering into a pitch may be hard. I ground our grey water tank getting in - luckily without any damage and fortunately there was a helpful person on the next pitch who then helped us in. The water was hot but the facilities could do with updating (the top ones at least - the lower ones were a little better) and a deep clean maybe. The site roads are in fairly poor condition. The cafe was pleasant and friendly & via Verde an attraction. The town of Navajas is fairly small and does not have a lot of shops or anything. We\'d use this as a stopover again (though it would depend on what sized unit we had) - unsure if we would stay much longer.
