Although you might consider Monte Generoso as a transit camping site, it would be a shame not to stay a little longer. Because it is a great base from which to make lots of fun excursions, by foot, by bike, or on the water. The simple but charming family camping site is located right along the banks of Lake Lugano, thereby promising lots of water activities. Here you always have a priceless view.
Monte Generoso is a spacious camping site with a splendid view of Lake Lugano. At the reception desk, Italian, German and English is spoken.
Where is your pitch?
The pitches on the level grounds are spacious, some of which are separated by hedges. Some pitches are fully shaded. You can even rent a caravan. Monte Generoso is located right on the lakeshore, which begins with a (little) strip of pebble beach.
The camping site guests are mainly Swiss, Germans and those travelling from north and west Europe; the latter due to the site's location along the Germany-Italy route. Monte Generoso is therefore also very suitable as a transit camping site. In the summer, families with children come because of the location directly on the water and the water sport activities.
All water recreation is done in the lake itself; there is no swimming pool on the camping site. The water in the lake is crystal clear and lake bed is made of pebbles. You can go right into the lake from the camping site.
Take the cog railway up to the top of Monte Generoso! There is a visitor centre there where activities are held and where you have a view of the Alps and the Po Valley.

This is the most expensive campsite I have ever been on! It's a complete rip off. We paid for one night and just discovered that doesn't even cover a hot shower!
The food being dished up at the take away looked lovely but when we asked the chef what it was he nearly bit our heads off! Told us to read the menu which we had been trying to do for ten minutes in the dark! The menu was a dirty piece of laminate stuck to the shack with barely any explanation or detail! Thanks to the very rude chef we decided to cook for ourselves yet he still made a very snide comment to another person as we walked away! My partner is fluent in Italian and knew exactly what he said! Rude rude man who needs to learn some customer service skills! Glad we are only here for one night. We have travelled for months now all through France and Italy and never had such rude treatment anywhere! First and last time to this place!
Lovely location right next to Lake Lugano – ask for a pitch on the lakeside. Friendly and helpful English speaking reception team. Clean and tidy loos and showers. Well stocked shop and bar together with bistro restaurant. Pitches not marked out specifically so can be tricky keeping space around you; they’re also on a slope (leading down to the lake) so lots of levelling required. Reliable electrics. Large static home contingent on site tend to party into the night so a bit noisy.
Easy access location, though not well signed and not far off motorway (4kms parallel journey). Recommended, tough it's not cheap.
