Municipal campsite in Puy-en-Velay

Camping du Puy-en-Velay is a small-scale and welcoming campsite with just 72 camping pitches, suitable for tents, caravans and camper vans. The camping pitches vary in size and have plenty of shade. Campers come here to enjoy the peace and quiet and to explore the surroundings. The campsite itself does not have many amenities, but it is ideally situated. A very large supermarket, where you can do your daily groceries, is just a five-minute walk away. Furthermore, you can walk within a couple of minutes to the historical town of Puy-en-Velay.

Le Puy-en-Velay is a town that has secured a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is also known as the pilgrim town. The town is one of the most important stopping places along the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. The town is staggeringly beautiful with its cathedral, beautiful squares, and the Black Madonna which you can view here. Are you looking for a challenge? Then climb 80 metres up to the chapel of Saint-Michel D'Aiguilhe, built on top of an old volcanic plug. From here, you will have a beautiful view of the Haute-Loire region.

Liked - Makes a great base for motorcycling in the area. An easy stroll in to town for restaurants etc.

Liked - Lovely site that was very clean and tidy. Polite helpful owners and although we were unlucky with the weather it is easy to get into town.
Disliked - I always think it strange when there is no toilet paper provided.

Travelling party: Couple

Most welcoming hosts. This well positioned camp site is great for visiting this ancient town with its imposing monuments. The shower block and toilets are clean and well looked after, if a little dated. The grass pitches can be a little muddy if arriving after heavy rain, we opted for a pitch near the entrance which was flat and level. I would highly recommend this site for visiting this interesting town.
