this site was very untidy, grass was growing through picnic tables, grass on Special priced pitch for the view of the loire, grass not cut hedges not cut as this was a special rate we thought it over priced also when arriving at 1150 to check in we where told be quick i shut at 1200 but got booked in paid the said fee only to find bar and food not open why didn\'t the receptionist tell us this before we booked in so i think these sites should STATE before booking what is open (they only seem to want the fee)
i have left a review on there page with a response well it has been wet ,surely this is not the answer would not use this site again
Around 2016, Camping du Chantepie was purchased by Huttopia and rebranded as Huttopia Saumur. In 2017 we noticed a number of changes to the site, some for the better, some not so. The trampolines had been replaced by a car park, the pond had been filled in, and we saw no sign of the donkeys, pigs and chickens that the kids used to find so appealing. Reception had also been moved to the building that used to be the shop, and the original building looked a little deserted, which was a shame as it used to look so attractive. The worst change was that 3 large chalets had been placed on the picnic area/viewpoint overlooking the Loire. These spoiled the view from the original river view pitches, but more importantly it dissuaded campers from congregating there in the evening. This viewpoint was one of the nicest features of the site, and it is now sadly all but lost.
On the plus side, the sanitary blocks have been refurbished. The family rooms upstairs were closed off, but the rest were open when we visited late in the season. All facilities are unisex, and paper and soap are provided.
Another improvement is the addition of a play area and picnic benches near the bar/restaurant.
Out of main season but pool and bar open as described. Superb toilet facilities all renovated since our last visit 5 years ago when this was called Chantepie and run as part of a project for learning disabled. Now Huttopia and efforts by staff seemed half hearted and appearance of their "Hutts" gives a rather army camp ambience. Only site this holiday where we paid " up front" and despite site being largely empty, ACSI pitches restricted to a few in number and marked on map. Site is In a lovely location handy for walking and cycling along the Loire, visiting Chinon and Saumur. Would return. If only for their pain au raisin. Best of the holiday.
This was listed as a 4 star site in the Acsi book, site itself rated it as a 5 star but by the mid September it was looking decidedly tired. Having said that the pools were top class as were the toilets/showers but these were grouped around the reception and involved quite a walk from our pitch. Handy for Samaur if you like that sort of thing and walking was very limited the site being quite high up above the river. Facilities I think would be stretched in high season.
The campsite is in a wonderful position above the Loire Valley with panoramic views over the river. Pitches are available (best to pre book) on the ridge with exceptional views. These pitches are sunny in the morning when it is coolest and very well shaded in the afternoon - an almost perfect combination. There are three pools which cater for children, the lazy like us, and the more energetic swimmers. There are many cycle routes nearby and the site is a good base for visiting the famous Loire chateaux including Saumur (5 miles) and the almost unbelievably magical Chenonceaux (60 miles) and many others. We loved the site and the pitches with valley views are excellent. The restaurant was basic but good value. Our only criticism was that having only one amenity block meant it was quite a distance away.
An excellent site with views of the Loire. It is well worth paying the supplement for a Loire view pitch. Toilets spotlessly clean and warm in cool weather. Covered pool also welcome in early season.
This site is in a delightful elevated position above the Loire. Beautiful & peaceful setting, with helpful and friendly staff.
Free wifi available throughout the campsite.
We didn't use the toilets or showers, so can't comment on them. The dish and clothes washing areas are good, with lashings of hot water.
Great cycling in the area & of course lots of caves to visit for wine & cremant tasting!
We would recommend a visit to watch one of the performances of Le Cadre Noir, which is about 3 miles from the campsite - even non-horsey people will enjoy it! The guided tour of the stables is very interesting & informative.
Great value at night. You can pay more for a Loire view, or for a bigger pitch, but the standard pitches are lovely, and you can find one with shade or sun, depending on your preference.
We stayed here for 2 weeks with our caravan and it is an impressive site, with efficient and friendly staff who aim to please and generally do. Toilets and Showers were excellently maintained. We will return for sure.
Lovely campsite, well maintained and staff eager to please. Well positioned for visiting the area. Fantastic views from parts of the site - for which you pay extra if you want to pitch on a "view". I believe it was 10 euro extra!
Campsite is located in quiet location overlooking the River Loire - photograph taken showing the River Loire pitches was cleverly taken as the river is about 500-750 metres away from the site down in a valley!
Pitches are a good size with a choice of shade or sunshine and separated by mature hedges and trees. Extra large pitches and those overlooking the river have an 8 euro per night supplement.
Shower and toilets are clean with plenty of hot water although the showers need some maintenance and refurbishment. The water at the washing up area was only lukewarm for most of our visit - maybe to do with the fact that the campsite was preparing to close and there were a lot less people using the facility. There are a couple of freezers are in the washing up area to enable freezing of ice packs.
Internet access is available over the campsite but is quite expensive in comparison to other ACSI sites we have visited - 9 euros for 5 hours.
Bar and restaurant was okay, take away pizzas were good and reasonably priced.
