For the second, and last (there will be no third!), time my family and I left this campsite appalled at the attitude and manners of the campsite owners. Their sullen, unsmiling and uninterested ‘welcome’ is extremely unfriendly and negative.
We were met with one-word answers to some very basic questions, and no information is volunteered about facilities or amenities, all of which we discovered too late; morning bakery van delivery; no toilet paper provision (it’s much too late when someone, not least a child, needs the toilet urgently and rushes the 250m to the nearest facilities at 06:00 Uhr!!); and use of a ‘complimentary’ WLAN.
The daughter of the owner was on Kanuverleih booking duty as we arrived, while her mother was next to her taking campsite bookings. Its evident the daughter has perfected her mother’s petulance and unfriendliness which ensures she displays an arrogant and extraordinarily spoilt and/or unintelligent demeanour. Though she is at least honest enough to dismissively say we ought return at a quieter time of the year if we wish to ensure a speedier pick-up from the canoe trip (this as the result of my enquiry as to whether the pick-up procedure had improved following our experience 2 years before which resulted in a 90+ minute wait – in 30° heat with no facilities, and with no warning – where only 2 x 8 seater vehicles are used). Charming! The following morning when questioned about the lack of toilet paper her surly response is that it “makes too much mess”, and “is too expensive”… I’m aghast!!
It’s a shame because the facilities are very good. We were fiortunate enough to find a spot by the river – and not down in the noisy party area (where electric hook-up was), even if the main road directly on the other side of the river shatters any illusion of tranquillity. The swimming pool is a real win, and the canoe trip a genuine pleasure – even though the pick-up remains an absolute mess, and takes the pleasure off the trip.
Under different, interested, pleasant, more engaged, less greedy management this would be a wonderful campsite. But until then I very strongly don’t recommend it.
The swimming pools was supposed to be for adults 18.00-20.00, but it was still crowded with children that took a way a bit of the joy.
