In the north of Portugal, on the inner edge of National Park Peneda-Gerês, lies Lima Escape Camping & Glamping. Here you stay beneath high fir trees with the Lima river at your feet and magnificent nature surrounding you. Ideal for seekers of peace and for hikers. On the campsite you will mostly find very satisfied campers, irrespective of whether they are staying in a tent, caravan, mobile home or in one of the exciting tree huts or luxury glamping tents.

Tree hut and glamping tent

The sloping grounds offer spacious pitches with a lot of shade or with some shade. Glamping tents, mobile homes, apartments and bungalows as well as a few exciting tree huts can be booked. There is no TV or WiFi in the glamping tents and tree huts. How peaceful is this?

The Lima River

You can swim in the Lima river. The grounds also border a lake/recreational water. In adddition to the river, the campsite also has a beautiful swimming pool in the summer months, made from a recycled container. The pool has a less deep children's section and nice views over nature. Surrounded by the natural shade of the trees and comfortable loungers, you can cool off and unwind here.

Jeep safari

Lima Escape Camping & Glamping offers a wide variety of activities and entertainment: from walking, cycling, quad and jeep safari to different water activities including electric boat trips, kayak and water-bicycle renting. Also make sure to visit one of the natural lakes nearby, waterfalls and make unexpected discoveries in National Park Peneda-Gerês. The campsite provides several walking and cycling routes for the sporty fellows. There is a (free) WiFi spot still wifi is provided only at the reception an bar area.

Comprehensive menu

Lima Escape Bar locating on the camping entrance offers great variety of snacks, sandwiches, light dishes, salads and vegetarian options. It is a lovely, lively place with a large shaded terrace in summer and wood fire-place in winter, great choice of local and international drinks. The campsite also offers fresh bread (with pre-advise order) and has a small shop.

Sanitary facilities

The sanitary facilities have recently been renovated and are kept in a tidy and clean condition.

Travelling party: Family with children, 4 – 12 years

Generally a very positive stay in the \"T1+1 TOP\" bungalow for five nights. There were four of us - me, my wife, our adult daughter and our grandson.

The campsite is situated on a peninsula that borders the Lima River and is flanked by the Froufe and Tamente rivers. The site itself is heavily wooded, primarily with tall pine trees, providing a sense of emersion in nature whilst also supplying much appreciated shade during the hot summer days. In addition to plots for tents and campervans, the site also rents five permanent ‘glamour tents’, two houses and five bungalows.

We booked the only split-level bungalow (called T1+1 TOP). It has a bedroom with a balcony on the upper floor. The lower floor consists of a living room with pull-out couch, a small bathroom and a kitchenette. There is also a ground floor, outdoor patio with table and chairs. There is no air-conditioning but an electric fan is provided in the bedroom. The kitchenette includes a sink, a small fridge, a two-burner electric hob and a microwave. The bathroom is small and tight, located under the spiral staircase that leads to the upper level. The bungalow was somewhat cramped for four of us, but a whole lot more comfortable than a tent would have been. We were able to park directly outside our bungalow which was very useful.

My wife and I had the upper bedroom and the plan was for our daughter and grandson to share the pull-out couch. But after one night, it was clear that the couch was too narrow for two people to sleep comfortably. For the second night, we set up an air-bed and sleeping bag for our grandson in the bedroom. He couldn’t sleep well on that either! So, for the remaining three nights, he slept between me and my wife on the bed and he finally got some good sleep.

We particularly enjoyed the upper balcony and the ground floor patio. The patio was great for eating meals, or for enjoying a glass of wine. Around dusk, we enjoyed sitting outside watching small bats as they flitted between the trees and around our bungalow. Very cool indeed! We didn’t experience any mosquitoes whilst we were there and I wondered whether the bats were to be thanked for that.

Kayaks can be rented to take advantage of the campsite’s ideal location for water activities, with three-hour rental periods available in the morning and afternoon. We opted for an afternoon rental, between 3.00pm and 6.00pm, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Whilst the campsite website advertises other activities, they are all off-site via other companies. And there is very little information posted at reception.

Our hopes of doing a horseback trek were dashed, as they only operate on weekends and were fully booked. Guess we should have booked in advance!

There are four natural swimming pools near to the site. Information on these is clearly posted.

Wifi is only available close to the reception building and, to be honest, it is virtually useless, unless there is nobody else using it. We had to rely on internet access via our phones.

There is a small grocery shop next to reception but it doesn\'t have much available. There is an Intermarche supermarket about 15-minutes drive away.

Reception staff didn\'t create a very positive first impression. When I tendered my ACSI Camping Carnet ID to check in, I was bluntly told \"We don\'t accept those in July or August. I need a passport.\" Strange that an ID can be accepted 10 months out of the year but not in the high season, but staff interactions were friendly and positive after that.

Whilst the camp restaurant was generally good, I had a bad experience when I was served bad shrimp and the staff claimed that the awfully smelling (and tasting) shrimp were normal.

Had a wonderful stay at Lima Escape. Staff very helpful and friendly. We were travelling by motorhome, good choice of pitches, some on the top level had views overlooking the river, most were on a lower level shaded by tall trees. Toilet facilities were excellent, probably the best we had whilst travelling for 7 weeks. Unusually for Portugal there was a good supply of toilet roll and had handwash and electric hand dryers. The site is wonderfully located and you feel very at one with nature. We know that the owners value the importance of its natural environment and it shows. The area is great for sightseeing, we cycled every day encountering beautiful scenery and interesting attactions especially the stone granaries at Lindoso. We were going to stay 2 nights, we ended up staying 5 which says it all really! We would definitely return

This is such a lovely campsite situated under the pine trees on the edge of the river Lima. Access to the site from the road is very good for caravans and motorhomes. Access around the site is a little more tricky especially for caravans. There are some level pitches under the pine trees however if these have gone then you will need to use ramps to get your vehicle level. Don’t let this put you off as it is a lovely site where the owners have done their best to keep it as natural as possible. Reception were very welcoming and helpful. Choose your own pitch. Electric was excellent with both 10 and 16 amp. There is a bar and restaurant next to reception. The restaurant is used by locals from the village so you will need to book. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The toilets were very clean and the showers were fine with plenty of hot water. The grey waste and toilet disposal was also very good. There is a small shop at reception where you can order fresh bread for the following morning. If you have time do visit Soajo which is a charming mountain village about 15 mins drive from the site.
