So many people, so many campsites

1 May, 2018

Small, large, child-friendly, sustainable, glamping, campsites come in all shapes and sizes. The success of your camping holiday will depend to a large extent on the type of campsite. My parents and I once turned up at a naturist campsite by mistake. Not a disaster, but for us not worth repeating as the campsite had no swimming pool and no tennis court, two of the amenities that as a young camper I always wanted …

You can choose from sixteen campsite themes on Eurocampings. These will tell you something about the ambiance of the campsite (small campsites, eco-campsites or stopover campsites) or the type of camper the campsite is geared to (campers with dogs, disabled campers or wintersports campers). Decide in advance whether you or your companions have any specific wishes. Good preparation is half the work. Nothing is better than camping with like-minded people.

Small campsites

Small campsites

The size of a campsite can be an indication of the number of amenities. As a general rule, the fewer the camping pitches and rental accommodation, the greater the chance that the campsite is suitable for those seeking relaxation. People who appreciate quiet campsites, often in natural surroundings should certainly check out the wide selection on ACSI Great Little Campsites. With more than two thousand small campsites throughout Europe you will always be able to find a suitable spot on a campsite with no more than fifty touring pitches and thirty units for rent.

But do not be confused by the term ‘small campsite’. There’s plenty to do, even on a small-scale campsite.  There are eleven campsites shown in the extended search function on ACSI Great Little Campsites  where you can enjoy an outdoor pool, jeu de boules, recreational room, playground equipment, fishing, mountain bike rental and a snack bar. Small-scale camping is possible without having to sacrifice the number of amenities!

Large campsites

In contrast to the small campsites there are the ‘big boys’; campsites with hundreds, even thousands of camping pitches and an enormous variety of rental accommodation. You can expect a wide range of amenities and enjoyment for the whole family. Bowling, climbing, squash, going to the cinema, and all on the campsite? Anything is possible. Swimming in a large water park full of exciting slides, jet streams, wave pools and bubble baths? No problem. There just won’t be enough days to discover and do everything. It might mean booking a couple of extra nights…

Glamping

It’s not just the amenities that are excellent at larger campsites, you can often camp in greater luxury. Spacious camping pitches with private bathrooms and wifi, luxurious tents with a well-equipped kitchen, and mobile homes with comfortable beds and airconditioning; camping can be just as luxurious as at home! And the nice thing is that you don’t need to drive too far. You can for example experience how comfortable glamping can be all year round in England or Scotland. You will find more information on glamping here.

Camping with children

One thing that is important to many families during their camping holiday is that the campsite is child-friendly. Not only should the campsite offer plenty of amenities (entertainment, playground equipment, special children’s toilets) but safety is also very important. This can include having attendants at the swimming pool and fences to separate the campsite from the road. As parents you can then let your children play and swim carefree. It is after all a holiday for everyone!

From baby to teenager

It is important to keep in mind the age of the children who go camping when choosing a campsite. Obviously with a baby you want to be sure there are suitable toilet facilities and possibly a little paddling pool, for teenagers it’s more important to have a great entertainment team that organises sports tournaments during the day and foam parties in the evening. If you are interested in fun campsites for children in your country, reading up about it beforehand will do no harm.

Book campsites directly

Assuming you know which sort of campsite you want to go camping at, what’s the next step? Booking it, of course! You can do this just as easily at home or on your way using Eurocampings.eu! This way you can book a large number of campsites instantly. View all the ACSI campsites that can be booked here.

When you have found a really good campsite, click on ‘Book now’ to view the availability and prices. When looking for the campsites most suitable for you by using your smartphone, tablet or laptop; simply tick all the amenities that are important to you. You will find more tips on how to find your ideal campsite in this recent article.

Because you book directly with the campsite you can make a request while booking if you have a preference for a certain pitch. A place in the shade, please, or in the sun or nice and close to the toilets? Let them know and the campsite will try to keep this in mind.

  • From Calais to Cannes and from Nantes to Nancy. You could say I explored quite a bit of France in the past. Together with my parents and brother, we'd go camping for weeks on end in a trailer tent at the best campsites. Later, we went through the rest of Europe in a motorhome. Nowadays, I really enjoy cultural city breaks with my wife. Oh yes, despite my fear of heights, I love cliff railways and cable cars.
